Abstract

A material suitable for constructing or covering roads, or for fireproofing or water-proofing paper, wood, fabric, &c., consists of a gelatinous substance resulting from the treatment of a silicate with a metallic compound such as lime, calcium chloride, or iron, aluminium or magnesium sulphate, with bitumen, tar or pitch (which may also contain petroleum oils), to form a slip. In an example the proportions by weight are lime 15, water 45, tar 200, silicate 100, pitch 30. The mixture may be sprayed.ALSO:A material suitable for constructing or covering roads, or for fire-proofing paper, wood, fabric, &c., consists of a gelatinous substance resulting from the treatment of a silicate with a metallic compound such as lime, calcium chloride, or iron, aluminium or magnesium sulphate, with bitumen, tar, or pitch (which may also contain petroleum oils) to form a slip. In an example, the proportions by weight are lime 15, water 45, tar 200, silicate 100, pitch 30. The mixture may be sprayed.
