Abstract

A binder or coating-composition comprises asphalt, a solvent for the asphalt, and a comminuted talc like mineral, e.g. agalite, serpentine, talc, asbestine or soapstone. A fibrous material such as asbestos may also be added. In an example, a composition comprises 11 parts of Gilsonite, 23 parts of petroleum asphalt, 34 to 35 parts of naphtha, 2 parts of raw linseed oil, 15 parts of long fibred asbestos and 15 parts of agalite. The composition remains fluid at ordinary atmospheric temperatures and can be sprayed on to a surface as a sound deadening coating, e.g. in motor car bodies. It can also be used to unite a fibre board and a layer of cement or the like to form a laminated building board.
