Abstract

A composition suitable for coating pipes, cables, &c. is made by mixing depolymerized soft vulcanized rubber with molten bitumen and fine fibrous fillers e.g. asbestos. The mixture can be applied in a molten condition, dissolved in solvents to form a paint, or rolled into plates or strips which may be combined with a layer of fabric, paper or pasteboard. In an example, vulcanized rubber waste is depolymerized by melting and 5 parts of the liquid are stirred into 65 parts of a molten petroleum bitumen. 30 parts of fine fibrous asbestos are added. The molten mass is cast into forms, which are rolled into plates or strips.ALSO:A composition suitable for coating pipes, cables, &c. is made by mixing depolymerized soft vulcanized rubber with molten bitumen and fine fibrous fillers, e.g. asbestos.
