Abstract

A mixture of powdered Trinidad lake asphalt and rubber, (e.g as crude, waste, reclaim, solution or latex) with or without mineral oil, linseed oil or rosin is heated until the rubber becomes polymerized, cooled and either used as a paint or dissolved in naphtha, paraffin oil, turpentine, or petrol to serve as a priming coat.ALSO:Powdered Trinidad lake asphalt is mixed with rubber, with or without heat, to form a mass which may be sheeted or extruded. The rubber may be old motor tyres, crude, reclaim or devulcanized, solution or latex. A plasticizer such as rosin or synthetic gum may be added. The mixture may be vulcanized without adding sulphur, since the asphalt contains about 7 per cent of sulphur. Optional additions are rosin or synthetic gum. The mixture may be heated until the rubber becomes polymerized, with or without mineral oil, linseed oil or rosin, cooled and either used as a paint or dissolved in naphtha, paraffin oil, turpentine, or petrol to serve as a priming coat.
