Abstract

An additive for oil base or water base paints comprises a mixture of a fatty acid, a polyamine and cetyl pyridinium bromide used in the proportion of 1/8 per cent by weight of the paint. Preferred proportions of the additive are acid 80 parts, polyamine 15 parts and bromide 5 parts.ALSO:An additive for bitumens comprises a fatty acid, a polyamine and ectyl pyridinium bromide. Preferred proportions by weight are 80, 15 and 5 respectively, and the additive is present as 0.5 per cent. of the bitumen. The additive may be prepared either by mixing the acid and polyamine, heating at 360 DEG F., cooling and adding the bromide, or by mixing part of the acid with the polyamine, mixing the remaining acid with the bromide and then combining the two mixtures. Five per cent. of the bituminous compositions is used to coat aggregates.
