Abstract

A cold surfacing-material for roads, aerodrome runways and the like is prepared by adding a finely-powdered hard pitch or asphalt to a mixture of a wet aggregate, an alkaline wetting-agent such as lime or caustic soda, and a bituminous binder. The binder may be a natural asphalt or a tar and the amount of the powdered material is added about 30 per cent. by weight of the binder. According to the Provisional Specification, when the aggregate is composed predominantly of fine particles, the powdered pitch or asphalt may be added before incorporation of the binder.
