Abstract
551,765. Road-making material. HINES, J. T. Oct. 28, 1941, No. 13839. [Class 22] In making road-making material of mineral fragments coated with tar, bitumen or other binding-agent, coarse and fine aggregate are coated separately, the coarse with the minimum amount of binding agent to form a film on the particles and the fine with the minimum to render it compressible without being rigidly cemented and are mixed together in proportions to avoid voids. Commercial aggregate may be separated on a sieve of 3/16 inch mesh, that retained being treated as coarse, and that passing through as fine. The coarse aggregate is treated with 1¢ to 2¢ per cent. binding agent and the fine with 4¢ to 6¢ per cent. The proportion of coated fine material is 20 to 30 per cent. of the mixture.
