Abstract
A bituminous material use in surfacing roads or filling joints therein comprises additional substances, such as metal or wood, in powder or other form. The metal may be in the form of powder, chips, shavings, hooks, spirals, wires, rods or built-up structures of net or other form, and the wood may be in the form p of chips, sawdust or shavings. The additional substance may also comprise glass pieces. The additional substance may be combined with the bituminous material before application of the material to the road, and in this case, the material may be moulded and laid in the form of blocks. A suitable composition for road surfacing comprises 10 per cent of bitumen, 20 per cent of iron particles, rods or shavings, 70 per cent of filling material (stone powder and sand), and 20 per cent of broken stone. For filling joints, the material may comprise 30 per cent of bitumen, 20 per cent of iron or wood shavings and 50 per cent of stone powder.
