Abstract

414,767. Road and like surfaces ; blocks. CROSS, J., Ditton Priors, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, and McQUAY, A. T., 98, Broad Street, Birmingham. Feb. 13, 1933, Nos. 4397 and 26233. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i).] A composite surfacing material for roads and the like comprises a top stratum 1 of a mixture of rubber latex and granulated ground rubber, a concrete or like lower layer or foundation 2, and an intermediate layer 3 composed of cement and/or lime, rubber latex and a suitable aggregate such as granulated basalt, granite, or clean sharp pit sand. The strata 1 and 3 are applied to the layer 2 while in a plastic condition, and if the latter is initially in a plastic state, the strata are preferably applied before it has set and the three strata are pressed or rolled into intimate contact at normal temperature. Asbestos or asbestos waste may be added to the top layer, the amount ranging between 25 per cent and 50 per cent of the proportion of ground rubber. The composite material may be made into the form of blocks.
