Abstract
In the manufacture of road covering and like bituminous compositions, intended to be laid cold, in which the binding agent is heated to at most 130 DEG C., to effect the mixing, the adhesion of the binder to the mineral aggregate is increased by the addition of dry powdered peat or lignite, or humine substances, e.g. humic acid extracted therefrom. In a modification, stone is coated with a thin film of bituminous matter in the presence of powdered lignite or the like. In this case a hard road tar or asphalt requiring a higher temperature than 130 DEG C., to effect the mixing may be used. A road covering composition is made from the prepared stone by mixing it with a suitable binder, which may be a bituminous emulsion.
