513,944. Bituminous compositions. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. April 22, 1938, No. 12069. Convention date, Aug. 10, 1937. [Class 22] To increase the adhesion between a mineral aggregate and bitumen in a paving composition, the mineral aggregate is treated with an aqueous solution of a salt of a heavy metal of groups 4-8 of the periodic table, e.g. a lead salt, and the bitumen contains a small amount of an organic carboxylic acid such as fatty acid, naphthenic acid, sulphonated naphthenic acid or sulphonated castor oil, which reacts with the metal salt.
