510,654. Bituminous compositions. KOHLE UND EISENFORSCHUNG-GES., and GELSENKIRCHENER BERGWERKS-AKT.-GES.. Nov. 19, 1938, No. 33701. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1937. [Class 22] A fluxed coal tar pitch composition having a high softening point and great toughness is made by using as the initial material a coal tar pitch having a softening point (Kramer- Sarnow) above 110‹C. and preferably above 130‹C., and a free carbon content of above 45 per cent. and preferably above 55 per cent. Preferably also the content of components capable of being sulphurated is low, below 5 per cent. As flux may be used a semi-solid or solid coal tar distillate, e.g., anthracene residue with an addition of coal tar oil. The fluxed pitch, with or without fillers, may be used as an ingredient in road making compositions, e.g., with split basalt stone, coating compositions, impregnating compositions for windings and wrappings, adhesive compositions, cements, sealing compositions and the like.
