Abstract
For the manufacture of coloured coal-tar pitch mastics, a mineral aggregate and a pigment are incorporated with a coal-tar pitch having not more than 10 per cent, and preferably not more than 8 per cent, of free carbon. The pitch may be produced from gas works or coke-oven tar or from that resulting from low-temperature carbonization processes, in which case the carbon content may be not more than 5 per cent. The aggregate may be ground limestone, chalk, clay, slate-dust, silica, or a mixture thereof, and grit, and the pigment may be ferric or chrome oxide. Examples of compositions are: (1) coal-tar pitch with a free carbon content of 5 per cent, heavy tar oil, ground chalk, ground limestone, grit, and ferric oxide; (2) coal-tar pitch with a free carbon content of 10 per cent, ground chalk, ground limestone, grit, and ferric oxide; (3) coal-tar pitch with a free carbon content of 10 per cent, ground chalk, ground limestone, stone chippings, and ferric oxide; (4) coal-tar pitch with a free carbon content of 5 per cent, ground chalk, ground limestone, grit, ferric oxide, and chalk.
