536,837. Insulating compositions. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., BECKINSALE, S., and PAGE, H. C. Dec. 16, 1939, No. 32371. [Class 22] Setting-compositions for insulating purposes prepared by mixing a substance containing free organic acid with a liquid vehicle and a base, which causes setting by formation of a waterinsoluble soap with the free organic acid, are admixed with blown bitument to improve the ductility, adhesion to metals and resistance to oils. In examples, blown bitumen is mixed with rosin spindle oil, oleic acid and petroleum residue bitumen, and the mixture is hardened by admixing a paste consisting of calcium hydroxide and oxide and spindle oil. Oleic acid may be added to stabilize the basic composition as described in Specification 536,838 and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol to increase the plasticity and adhesion. The rosin may be replaced by fatty acids, pine or Stockholm tar rosin pitch or rosin oil, and the calcium hydroxide by zinc or lead oxides.
