Abstract
A method of making a thickened liquid combustible mixture in the form of a gel comprises adding a powder mixture of polyisobutylene of0 50,000 to 250,000 M.W. and a separating substance to a saturated or unsaturated liquid hydrocarbon, an aliphatic or hydroaromatic liquid alcohol, or mixtures thereof. The separating subtance is a metal salt of a fatty acid, naphtalene, stearine, paraffin or other wax or a mixture thereof. Up to 50 per cent of the separating substance based on the total quantity of powder may be used. The polyisobutylene may be that known under the Registered Trade Mark "Oppanol". The combustible mixture may also contain tar oil. Optional ingredients of the composition are perchlorates, e.g. alkali metal and ammonium perchlorates and xanthates, e.g. isoamyl, tetrahydrofurfuryl, octyl, lauryl and oleyl xanthates, which may be used as a viscous mixture in organic solvents. Elementary sulphur may be dissolved in the xanthates or they may be treated with lignin powder. In examples, gels are made of (1) "Oppanol", aluminium palmitate, petrol and a petroleum fraction of 150-250 DEG C. boiling range; (2) the gel of (1) mixed with a viscous tetrahydrofurfuryl xanthate solution and ammonium perchlorate; (3) the gel of (1) mixed with potassium isoamyl xanthate and ammonium perchlorate; and (4) "Oppanol", naphthalene, wax, the aluminium soap of coconut oil fatty acids, petrol, a petroleum fraction of 150-250 DEG C. boiling range, benzene, a neutral lignin hydrogenation product, a mixture of tetrahydrofurfuryl and oleyl xanthates in petroleum fusel oil with dissolved sulphur, sodium perchlorate and aluminium powder.ALSO:A method of making a thickened liquid combustible mixture in the form of a gel comprises adding a powder mixture of polyisobutylene of 50,000 to 250,000 M.W. and a separating substance to a saturated or unsaturated liquid hydrocarbon, an aliphatic or hydroaromatic liquid alcohol, or mixtures thereof.
