[Class 22] In forming insulating compositions by admixing two components one containing free organic acid and the other consisting of a liquid diluent and a base which causes setting by forming a water-insoluble soap, settling of the base in the diluent is prevented by including in the mixture an oil-soluble, water-insoluble soap, either by adding a prepared soap or by incorporating a small quantity of free acid which combines with part of the base. The organic acid may be a fatty acid or the acids contained in rosin or distillation products of resins such as pine or Stockholm tar, resin pitch or rosin oil. The base may be calcium hydroxide or zinc or lead oxide. Bitumens, synthetic resins, or coal tar and petroleum products may be added. Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol may be added to improve the plasticity and adhesion to metal of the composition.
