Abstract

934,720. Lubricating compositions. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd., P. M. BLANCHARD, N. J. HUNTER, and S. R. PETHRICK. July 6, 1961 [Aug. 9, 1960], No. 27559/60. Class 91 A lubricating composition consists of (a) a base oil of a viscosity 1-30 cs at 210‹F., a neutralization value not greater than 1 m.g. KOH/g and consisting of one or more polyesters which may be mixed (defined) having been made from (1) trimethylolpropane and (2) a mono- and/or polycarboxylic C 2 - 14 acid and (b) 0À1 to 5% by weight of a compound where A 1 , A 2 which may be the same or different are aryl or substituted aryl and having, in either case, 6 to 25 carbon atoms, and R is hydrogen or C 1 - 15 alkyl. Suitable acids are listed. The Provisional Specification describes polyesters made from (a) a mono- and/or polyhydric C 5 - 15 alcohol having no hydrogen on any carbon atom in the 2-position relative to any-OH group, and (b) a mono- and/or polycarboxylic C 2 - 14 acid and gives a list of suitable compounds.
