Abstract

1,209,501. Esters of 2,2-dialkylpropanediol- 1,3. DEUTSCHE ERDOL A.G. 16 Feb., 1968 [23 Feb., 1967], No. 7735/68. Haeding C2C. [Also in Division C5] Diesters of C 6 -C 20 saturated fatty acids with 2,2-dialkylpropanediols-1,3 in which one of the two alkyl groups in the 2-position contains from 6 to 14 carbon atoms and the other alkyl group contains more than 4 carbon atoms, are used as lubricants. Examples describe the preparation of mixed esters from 2-hexyl-2-octylpropanediol-1,3 and caprylic and capric acids, and from 2-hexyl-2-octylpropanediol-1,3 and coco fatty acids and capric acid, p-toluene sulphonic acid and either toluene or xylene also being present in the reaction mixture. Other esters specifically mentioned are 2-octyl-2-decylpropanediol-1,3-dicaprylate and -dipelargonate, the 2 - hexyl - 2 - octylpropanediol - 1,3 diesters of coco fatty acids, and 2-hexyl-2-octylpropanediol-1,3-dicaprate.
