Abstract

Lubricants comprise esters of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid (with a hydrocarbon chain of 2-4 C atoms between the carboxyl groups) and a mixture of alcohols consisting of 12-24 carbon atoms each, 4 to 10 thereof forming an alkyl branch attached to the b - (or 2-) carbon atom of the hydrocarbon main chain (see Division C2). Examples describe the esters of adipic, succinic, isobutenylsuccinic, (2 - methyl - propyl - 1) - succinic, diisobutenyl succinic acid, and (2,4,4-trimethyl-pentyl-1) succinic acids with the mixed alcohols.ALSO:Esters of aliphatic dicarboxylic acid (with a hydrocarbon chain of 2-4 C atoms between the carboxyl groups) and a mixture of alcohols consisting of 12-24 carbon atoms each, 4 to 10 thereof forming an alkyl branch attached to the B. carbon atom of the hydrocarbon chain are prepared in conventional manner and are used as lubricants. Examples describe esters of adipic acid and a mixture of i-C16, C18-, C20 alcohols; succinic acid and a mixture of i-C12-, C14-, C16-, C18-, C20- alcohols; isobutenylsuccinic acid and i-C16-, C18-, C20- alcohols; (2 - methyl - propyl - 1)- succinic acid and i-C12-, C14-, C16-, C18-, C20- alcohols and i-C16- C18, C20 alcohols; diisobutenylsuccinic acid and a mixture of i-C16-, C18-, C20 alcohols; and (2,4,4-trimethyl-pentyl-1) succinic acid and a mixture of i-C12-, C14-, C16-, C18-, C20- alcohols.
