555,789. Aluminium pigment pastes. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Oct. 6, 1941, No. 12871. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1940. [Class 95] A non-leafing aluminium paste is prepared by combining, without grinding, a normally-leafing aluminium powder, a thinner or carrier, and a deleafing agent composed of at least one of the soaps of lead, zinc and calcium. Specified soaps are the naphthenates, resinates, linoleates, tungates, laurates and palmitates. Specified thinners or' carriers are xylol, toluol, mineral spirits, kerosene, gasoline, petroleum naphtha, benzol, coal tar naphtha, and hydrogenated petroleum naphthas. The addition of a small amount of alcohol increases the speed of the deleafing action of the soap. The non-leafing aluminium pastes of the present invention are useful in the production of polychromatic coatings. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the following substances also may be used as the deleafing agent:-tetraethyl lead, and highly polar alcohols, esters, ketones and aldehydes, e.g. ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, ethyl lactate, acetone, and methyl, ethyl and butyl alcohol. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
