532,528. Fabrics composed of agglutinated fibres. ALGEMEENE KUNSTVEZEL MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. July 24, 1939, No. 21444. Convention date, July 26, 1938. [CLass 140] A fibrous bat is composed of loosely intermatted inorganic fibres and a bonding agent including a thermo-setting condensation product coating the constituent fibres with a thin film which is insufficient to alter materially the physical properties of the individual fibres but bonds these together at their points of contact without substantial reduction of the interstitial spaces between the fibres. The condensation product may be a phenol-formaldehyde, ureaformaldehyde, or alkyd resin ; and the fibres may be glass, slag, or rock wool. The resin may be added to the lubricating mixture usually applied to glass fibres during manufacture ; or this lubricant or other oily or fatty material (e.g. fatty acids, petroleum oil, metallic soaps, waxes) and the resin may be emulsified in water and sprayed on to the fibres during matting. The bat may comprise ¢ to 2¢ per cent. resin. After application to the fibres, the bonding agent is set by heating, e.g. between rollers or belts or in cavities such as the hollow panels of refrigerators and stoves. The material may also be used for insulation in houses and railway and road transport vehicles. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, refers also to the use of bentonite as an emulsifier. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
