Abstract

A heat insulating and sound damping layer is produced on a surface by spraying simultaneously, but separately, mineral fibres and a binder against the surface, the mineral fibre being slag wool which is comminuted to a fibre length of less than 0.5 millimetres, preferably to an average length of approximately 0.1 millimetres. Pigments and other substances may be added to the slag wool while it is being comminuted, e.g. by grinding in a disintegrator. Specified binders are sodium silicate solutions and bituminous emulsions, latex and casein solutions.
