Abstract

554,562. Composite sheet material. BENNIE, J. Nov. 26, 1941, No. 15254. [Class 140] A composite sheet material which in some cases is waterproof is made from at least two sheets of felted or matted fibres glued or stuck together with one or more interposed sneets of wire netting or expanded metal, the material being fireproofed with sodium silicate with or without magnesium chloride. The fibrous sheets may consist of paper, fibre-board, asbestos, or of felt or paper impregnated with bitumen, tar, fluxed pitch, or asphalt and they may incorporate vegetable, animal or mineral fibres alone or in admixture, such fibres including wool, fur, hair, paper, asbestos and slag. The sheets may also incorporate a filler, e.g. of inert mineral material such as ground limestone, chalk, whiting, powdered slate, china clay or asbestos, Size or lees may be used for sticking the layers together and the material may be consolidated by pressure rolls. The fireproofing material may be applied to one or both faces of the constituent sheets, more than two fibre layers may be employed. The material may be used for making roof shutters.
