358,995. Sound deadening in buildings. JOHNS-MANVILLE CORPORATION, 292, Madison Avenue, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Nash, J. H. ; 146, Merion Avenue, Narbeth, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) June 10, 1930, No. 17852. Convention date, June 11, 1929. [Class 20 (ii).] A non-conducting covering for sound comprises a layer 2 of a sound absorbing material such as felt on a backing 1, and an exterior coating 3 of granular material with numerous openings to permit the passage of sound into the felt. The granular material may be pumice, and may be sprayed with a binder directly on to the felt. The binder may be casein glue, or may have a pyroxylin base. In a modification, the granular material may be applied to a woven metal or fabric screen stretched over the felt or upon a frame. In the latter case, the screen may be made separately and assembled upon the wall when required. Alternatively, the product may be in tile form, the sheet of completed material being cut into tiles or blocks. The absorbing material may be felt which has been subjected to needle-punching, balsam wool, rock wool, fibre board or slag wool.
