Abstract
516,484. Plaster board. LEFEBURE, V., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 28. 1938, No. 19155. [Class 87 (i)] For improved sound resistance a plaster board composed of plaster or cement lined on both sides with fibrous sheet material such as paper, pulpboard or cardboard has an adherent outer layer of felt or felted paper, which may be applied to the plaster core or may be bonded to a standard plaster board liner or a thinner paper liner contacting. with the plaster core. Hessian or thin wire netting may also be used as a backing material or may be interposed between the felt or felted paper and the paper or pulpboard contacting with the plaster core. A further improvement is obtained by using a cellular plaster core such as may be obtained by adding foam to the plaster mix from which the core is made and the felt or felted paper layer may contain asbestos fibres to make it fireproof. One example comprises a core of plaster of Paris containing 10 per cent. sawdust and a composite layer of paper, this contacting the plaster, hessian and coarse felt 0:18 inch thick, the hessian and felt layers applied by means of a cold water calcium caseinate glue. Another example comprises a core made of stucco, sawdust and water, one ordinary baseboard liner and the other liner consisting of compacted felt on a hessian backing stuck to the baseboard liner.
