[Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group XIII] Ceilings, walls &c. for sound insulation comprise layers of metal gauze, braiding or expanded metal 2, 3 coated with sound deadening material such as yarn, paraffined cotton, rubber, or lead, alternating with continuous sheets 1, 5 of material having sound reflecting properties such as asbestos fabric impregnated with paint ; plywood, sheet asbestos, sheets of fibre or synthetic resin, or metal plates such as lead or lead covered iron, aluminium or plates of hard rubber. Some of the gauze sheets may be uncovered or additionally coated with bitumen ; and the outer sheets of fabric may be hardened with calcium fluoride. In a modification, the gauze layer is replaced by a metal grating with sound damping material, such as lead strips attached thereto, the sheet being separated from the continuous sheets by a layer or strips of felt, rubber or soft fibrous substance.
