463,909. Nonconducting coverings for sound. FRANCOIS CEMENTATION CO., Ltd. (Werner Genest Ges.) June 6, 1936, No. 15896. [Class 64 (ii)] A sound-absorbing covering for walls &c. comprises a layer of dense material D, such as oiled paper or cloth, for absorbing low tones, with layers of porous material E, E<1>, such as wood fibre, wool, felt or glass wool on either side of the dense material to absorb tones of higher frequency, the compound layer being spaced from the surface to be insulated to enable the covering to vibrate. The porous layers may be stitched or pasted to the dense material, and the exposed porous layer E may take the form of wings, strips, &c., such as plates of porous wood fibre. The covering is preferably attached to wood framing C.
