Abstract

470,858. Bricks &c. HARRAP, E. R. Feb. 24, 1936, No. 5537. [Class 87 (i)] A building-block having acoustic properties and particularly adapted for partition walls comprises a facing 2, Fig. 1, of porous cement keyed by dovetailing or equivalent undercut joint to a sheet 1 substantially non-porous and capable of preventing the passage of sound. The sheet 2 consists preferably of asbestos cement, but may be made of metal or fire clay. If the blocks are primarily to prevent passage of sound, the back of the block 3 may also consist of porous cement. Exposed surfaces may be rendered smooth with cement or plaster. When the blocks are to absorb sound, the porous cement is keyed on one side only of the non-porous sheet and the blocks are resiliently mounted on felt 10 as in Fig. 3 to prevent resonance. The blocks, Fig. 9, are stepped so as to overlap as in Fig. 2, the joint being filled with mortar 6. In a modification, Fig. 4, the blocks 1 are fixed by resilient clips 11.
