Abstract

409,502. Nonconducting coverings for sound. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Johns - Manville Corporation ; 292, Madison Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) April 5, 1933, No. 10259. [Class 64 (ii).] A sound-absorbing structure is formed of units comprising a perforated facing member 1, which may be formed of a mixture of asbestos and cement, secured in contact with a sound absorbing pad 2 which may comprise a moulded block of mineral wool and a binder. An impervious sheet 11 is secured to the back of the pad 2. Tubular spacing members 4 may be provided having a flange 5 abutting against the sheet 11 and a shoulder 7 abutting against the member 1. The units may be secured by nails 14 passing through the spacing members and entering strips 13 attached to the surface to be covered. In an alternative construction, the spacing means may comprise staples 3<1> with their prongs 5<1> bent outwards after they have been driven through holes in the pad 2. The units may be secured to the surface to be covered by adhesive.
