Abstract
482,401. Building-slabs. FRANCOIS CEMENTATION CO., Ltd., NEEDLANDS. A. R., and KLOPSTOCK, K. Feb. 19, 1937, No. 5042. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] A sound-insulation slab comprises a layer of porous mineral fibrous material mixed with adhesive and faced with a thinner layer of a micro-porous mineral material of greater density also mixed with an adhesive. Glass or rock wool, is stiffened with an adhesive such as gelatine and formaldehyde and covered with a layer of a fraction of an inch in thickness, such as 1/32 of an inch, of diatomite mixed with adhesive. In manufacture, the latter is poured on to a smooth base plate or mould of glass, marble, &c. and the other layer of porous material placed thereupon. The surfaces of the slab may be coated with sodium silicate or gelatine and formaldehyde or with oil or paint without closing the pores of the materials. The finished slab may be covered with sheets or foils of aluminium free to oscillate ; holes in the latter or spaces between strips thereof may be provided to facilitate selective absorption of high and low frequency sound vibrations respectively.
