While the marble layer 2 is in the plastic state, the backing mixture of cement and crushed cinders is poured thereon, completely covering the core members 3, forming a non-porous rock backing 4. Slight tamping may be applied to the backing composition for more securely imbedding the coarse cinder concrete aggregate into the marble layer composition, and the entire mass hardening as an integral unit. The special mixing solution permeating the cinder material and reduces it to a consistency of rock formation.
After the block composition has sufficiently dried the cores 3 may be removed from the unit by withdrawing same therefrom from one side of the mould, and the unit seasoned until the required hardness is attained. This building slab may be used in wall construction in the full size slab, or sawed into smaller building blocks as indicated by the dotted lines a. and b of Fig. 1.
If desired the core members 3 may be omitted during construction, leaving the entire backing a homogeneous mass, but the air channels which provide a complete circulation therethrough greatly increase the wall strength as all dampness is readily removed therefrom by either horizontal or vertical ventilation.
- Also when desired the backing 4 formed. of cinder concrete may be omitted, and the finished artificial marble slab or block be cemented to the face of any other backing block or wall such as brick or stone &c, although this is not the purpose of the invention, as such uniting of the marble slab or block will greatly diminish the strength and durability of the product, as the hardening properties of the special mixing solution are omitted.
It is apparent that my building unit is subject to various modifications in design, shape, sizes and composition of the plastic materials without departing from the spirit of my invention, and that any design such as column or double wall units having one or all faces finished and glazed Across this marble layer may be made, and I claim as my invention the design as herein illustrated and any other design that is substantially a substitution of parts therein shown.
Having fully described my cinder chrome building unit, what I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: V
1. A building unit adapted for wall construction, formed of a plurality of different grades of cement concrete portions assembled in consecutive layers, the outer layer being a fine sand concrete containing sodium silicate, boracic acid, casein and salammoniac and is provided with an outside face glazing, said face glazing comprises a mixture of sodium silicate, boracic acid, casein and salammoniac.
2. A building unit adapted for wall construction, formed of a plurality of layers of, different grades of cement concrete portions, each layer containing sodium silicate, boracic acid, casein and sal-ammoniac the outer layer being a fine sand concrete artificial marble composition provided with an outside face glazing, said face glazing comprising .a mixture of sodium silicate, boracic acid, casein and sal-ammoniac.
3. A building unit adapted for construction purposes formed of a plurality of layers of different grades of cement concrete portions each layer containing sodium silicate, and boracic acid, said outer layer being a fine sand concrete imitation marble composition provided with the outside face glazing, and the inner layer being a cinder concrete mixture, said face glazing comprising a mixture of sodium silicate and boracic acid.
4. A building unit adapted for construction purposes formed of a plurality of different grades of cement concrete portions assembled in parallel layers each layer containing casein and salammoniac, the. outer layer being of a hard fine sand concrete artificial marble composition provided with an outside face glazing, the inner layer containing a cinder aggregate vsaid face glazing comprising a mixture of casein and sal-ammoniac.
5. A building unit adapted for building construction formed of two layers of different grades of cement concrete portions assembled in parallel layers each layer containing sodium silicate, boracic acid, casein and sal-ammoniac, one of said cement layers containing marble dust or sand and a mineral coloring ingredient and provided with an outer face glazing, and the other layer containing a course concrete aggregate, said face glazing comprising a mixture of sodium silicate, boracic acid, casein and sal-ammoniac.
