Abstract

Fabricated fibrous material such as rag felt, paper felt or asbestos felt is saturated with a bituminous composition and immediately afterwards coated on both sides with a hard bituminous sealing layer before the saturated material has had the opportunity to take up air or moisture. The saturant may consist of a high melting point bitumen which may be air blown or oxidized bitumen, or a high melting point mixture of bituminous materials. A suitable coating layer consists of a mixture of natural bitumen, steam reduced bitumen, air blown or oxidized bitumen, and hard mineral wax.
