Class 140 A waterproofing lagging for metal work, e.g. pipes, consists of a fibrous material coated or impregnated with an aqueous emulsion of bitumen, asphalt, petroleum jelly, or similar coal tar products, the emulsion being stabilized with colloidal clay such as bentonite and being so compounded as to present a permanently sticky surface when the water content is removed. Fatty and mineral oils, including anthracene oil, may be added. The fibrous material, which may be glass fibrous tissue, cotton, asbestos, natural or artificial silk, or wool,; in the form of a felt or woven fabric, may be impregnated and then coated on one or both sides.
