Abstract

Plastic compositions containing magnesium oxide and magnesium and zinc sulphates.-An artificial marble composition consists of calcined magnesia, zinc sulphate solution, magnesium sulphate solution, and a mineral or resinous oil or agar-agar jelly, or a solution of phenol-aldehyde condensation product. The proportions of the first three ingredients are in accordance with the formula: <1>/3 Zn.SO4.16.6H2O + 25MgO + 1# MgSo4.14.8H2O. The fourth ingredient is preferably mixed with one of the first three. Loading materials such as barium sulphate may be added, and a small quantity of sulphuric acid is preferably added to the mixture to remove traces of carbonates.
