Abstract

323,322. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Nov. 19, 1928. Indiarubber compositions containing resins &c. -Resinous esters, of mono or polybasic acids with polyhydric alcohols or ethers thereof, are added to natural or particularly to synthetic rubber before vulcanization and before, during or after compounding, to increase the strength of. the product. Among acids specified are abietic, phthalic, palmitic, &c., and such natural acidic materials as colophony; these may be esterified with, e.g., glycols, ethylene oxide, &c. Examples are given of mixes, treatment, and strength tests, the ester being generally about 2 per cent. One example deals with the production of transparent films by evaporation of a solution, and vulcanization with sulphur chloride. Specification 313,934, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
