Abstract
Cellulose esters containing both higher fatty acid radicals and nitric acid or other organic acid radicals are prepared by treating esters containing one or more of the last-mentioned groups with the acid chlorides of the higher fatty acids in the presence of pyridine and a diluent such as benzene. To separate the ester, the reaction mass is precipitated with alcohol, and the ester so separated may be purified by solution in benzene and re-precipitation with alcohol. In an example, di-nitrocellulose dissolved in pyridine is treated with lauryl chloride dissolved in toluene, and the mixture heated to 40-45 DEG C. Specification 201,510 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the manufacture of carbohydrate esters by a process similar to that for the cellulose esters; and Specification 208,685, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], is referred to. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the manufacture of carbohydrate esters containing both higher fatty acid radicals and nitric acid or other organic acid radicals, by treating esters containing one or more of the last-mentioned groups with the acid chlorides of the higher fatty acids in the presence of pyridine and a diluent such as benzene.
