Abstract
The affinity of cellulose esters, for example cellulose acetate, for dyestuffs is increased by incorporating therein one or more cellulose esters containing nitrogen, which esters are obtained by the esterification of cellulose in the presence of cyanacetic acid, aminobenzoic acid, or other organic acid containing nitrogen. In an example, cellulose is added to a cellulose acetate reaction mixture, and thereupon esterified by the addition of solid cyanacetic acid, and later, acetic anhydride. The product has physical properties similar to those of cellulose acetate, but a higher affinity for dyestuffs, especially direct dyestuffs. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to nitrobenzoic acid as a suitable organic acid containing nitrogen. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
