Abstract

The process of the parent Specification for the treatment of cellulose fibres or fabrics for prevention of attack by destructive organisms, is modified by the employment of perchloric acid or a perchlorate as catalyst in dilution between \ba1/40\be and \ba1/200\be normal, and an acetylation mixture comprising about 20 parts of acetic anhydride and 80 parts of a diluent such as benzol, in the proportion of not more than 15 parts of the mixture to 1 part of dry cellulose material, the acetylating process being arrested subsequent to a gain in weight of the material of 18 per cent and before the gain reaches 25,9 per cent. Specification 269,530, [Class 2 (ii)], is referred to.
