Abstract
303,006. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 24, 1927, [Convention date]. Grant of Patent opposed. Cellulose acetates and nitrates, and processes for making films therefrom ; preparatory treatment of cellulose.-In the manufacture of cellulose esters, the cellulose is first treated with the vapour of nitric acid under conditions such that the fibrous condition of the cellulose is preserved. In examples, cellulose nitrates and cellulose nitro-acetates suitable for the manufacture of films or lacquers, are obtained by the further nitration or by the acetylation of cottou which has been treated with nitric acid vapours to give a product containing 1.9-3 per cent nitric acid; the feebly nitrated cellulose may be washed and dried before the further esterification, or the excess of nitric acid may be expelled by air and the product then further nitrated in the usual manner.
