Abstract
272,380. Homberg, F. Nov. 3, 1926. Compositions containing blood.-Dry or slightly moist blood is intimately mixed with a white inorganic filler such as lithopone, zinc white, heavy spar, or antimony oxide, and the mixture is moulded by heat and pressure, and hardened by means of formaldehyde or its polymers, chromic acid, tannic acid, or alum. The material before or after hardening may be bleached by treatment with hydrogen peroxide, chlorine, sulphur dioxide, or other reagent, and the colour of the bleached mass is further improved by dissolving out the iron hydroxide, resulting from the decomposition of the haematin, by means of hydrochloric or tartaric acid or an acid tartrate, oxalate, &c. The mass may be dyed either before or after hardening. According to a modification the white filler is omitted, and the blood is mixed with mineral or lake pigments and pressed, bleached, and hardened.
