Abstract

675,517. Acid sludge adhesive. C. D. PATENTS, Ltd. Sept. 14, 1950 [Sept. 14, 1949], No. 23747/49. Class 22 Carbon is united to carbon or another material with a composition of sulphuric acid sludge from oil refining, an inert filler and an oxidizing agent. The composition is heated at 80‹C. Specified oxidizing agents are selenium dioxide and barium peroxide whilst carbon black is a preferred filler. Softening agents, e.g. naphtha and furfural may also be present, the furfural reacting with free acid of the sludge to give a resinous material converted by the heat treatment to elemental carbon.
