Abstract

229,742. Jones, F. C. Nov. 22, 1923. Vulcanizing - compositions. - Transparent or translucent heat-vulcanized rubber is obtained by the use of zinc or other metallic oxide (to activate the accelerator) in a colloidal or finelv divided state and in quantity not exceeding 7 per cent of the rubber. When suitable accelerators, such as tetramethylthiuram disulphid'e with or without hexamethylene tetramine, are used the amount of sulphur may be reduced by 2 per cent or less, and this also is advantageously added in colloidal form. Plasticisers (e.g. stearic acid), dyes, and other ingredients may be added to the mix. Specification 213,454 is referred to.
