Abstract

157,592. Reid, J. Nov. 5, 1919. Liquid-fuel furnaces.-In a furnace front adapted for conversion from oil to coal-firing or vice versa and comprising front and back plates and intermediate walls, together enclosing an air chamber, the fuel passage is in the form of a part cylindrical casing 13 or 14 having longitudinal air ports 16, and closable at the bottom for coal firing by a detachable sill plate 11. The outer end of the casing is formed with a flange 15 adapted to carry either a plate 28 with burner 29, or, for coal firing, as ordinary fire-door. Figs. 2 and 3 show one form of front as arranged for oil-firing and Fig. 7 a somewhat different form as arranged for coal-firing. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the front comprises inner plates 34 carrying brackets 32, 33 for the Venturi tube 31 these parts being all removed for coal-firing. The usual valves 18, 19 centre plate 20 and deflectors 35, 35<a> are provided. The front shown in Fig. 7 comprises the usual cover plate 24, valves 27, 23 and the baffles 37. The sill plate 11 has a stiffening rib 12.
