227,262. Coggon, H. F., and August's Muffle Furnaces, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1923. Muffle furnaces.-The grate or combustion hearth 1 is of greater length than the floor 3 of the muffle in order that the intensity of heat on the front and rear edges 2, 2<a> of the floor may be arranged to be equal to that along the remaining part of the floor of the muffle. In the case where oil or gas burners are used instead of solid fuel, the equalization of heat is obtained by extending the burners beyond the rear and front edges of the muffle floor. The furnace gases pass around the muffle and into the flues 7, 8 to the usual chimney 9. Specifications 13016/11 and 11386/13 are referred to.
