Abstract

250,352. Done, C., and Hough, J. T. Jan. 28, 1925. Closed solid fuel stoves; feeding; coking - chambers; grates; heat - radiators; linings; air supply for combustion.- In a closed solid-fuel stove, of the kind in which the upper part is partitioned to form a preheating or carbonization chamber and an extension of the combustion chamber, there being passages leading gases from the upper part of the preheating chamber to the combustion chamber, the outlet from the combustion chamber extension extends over the top or other part of the preheating chamber, and is provided with a fuel-charging door opposite to a door in the wall of the preheating chamber; gases emanating from the preheating chamber through the charging opening are thereby drawn into the. outlet flue. The stove shown comprises a refractory lining formed of back portions 15. side portions 16, a top member 19 having a charging opening 20 with a sliding cover 21, and a partition member 18 which is received in grooves 17 in the side members and divides the upper part of the body into a preheating chamber 30 and combustion chamber extension 36. A header 50 extends from the chamber 36 over the top of the chamber 30, and is provided with a charging opening 59 above the opening 20 in the top of the preheating chamber. The gases pass from the header down radiator tubes 52 at the sides of the stove and then up tubes 53 at the rear to the outlet, a damper 56 allowing the gases to pass directly to the outlet when required. Gases rising to the top of the preheating chamber 30 pass down ducts 25 formed in the linings 16 and issue ab openings 28 above the fire; downward extensions of these ducts allow air to pass up from the ashpit and enter through the same openings. The bottom grate is in two parts 10, 11 mounted on side rails so that they may be slid forward sepaxately, or removed; by removing the front portion only, the clinker may be raked forward and dumped into the ash-pan.
