Abstract

1,252,054. Disposable fabrics. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. 9 Oct., 1969 [9 Oct., 1968], No. 49596/69. Heading D1R. A water dispersible non-woven fabric comprises a layer of intersecting overlapping fibres of e.g., vicose rayon, cotton, jute, wool, cuprammonium cellulose acetate, polyesters, polyamides, or polyolefines which are not more than two inches long, preferably ¥-1¢ inches. 4-35% by wt. of the fabric of a binder is distributed in the fabric and comprises 70-90% of a water insoluble, non self-crosslinking, film forming polymer with a contact angle of 50-70‹ such as the acrylic, vinyl acrylic and acetate resins and butadiene-styrene polymers, and 10-30% of a water soluble material having pseudo-plastic flow properties, e.g. hydroxy-ethyl - cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose and natural gums such as guar and the alginates such as sodium alginate distributed throughout the said polymer. The water insoluble polymer may contain a polyvinyl alcohol protective colloid. The binder is preferably distributed throughout the fabric in globules 12 to leave unbonded areas. It may also be distributed in a predetermined pattern over the surface of the fibrous layer.
