Abstract

1446050 Cleaning cloths and pads JAPAN LATEX COMPOUNDING CO and H IINO 16 Nov 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 53416/73 Heading A4F [Also in Division D1] A soiled surface is cleaned by rubbing it in the presence of water with a fibrous cleaning material comprising a fibrous carrier impregnated with (1) a mixture of latex of at least one rubber selected from natural rubber, butadiene or styrene-butadiene, and (2) at least one polar high molecular weight material selected from polyvinyl acetate, vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer, acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer, polychloroprene, and acrylic resin, the carrier being thereafter dried so it retains the rubber and polar high molecular weight material. The carrier may be of non-woven, woven or knitted fabric, a wad of fibres, or paper, and the fibres thereof may be vegetable, e.g. cotton or hemp, animal, e.g. wool or silk, or man-made, e.g. viscose rayon, cellulose ester or acetate, polyamide, polyvinyl alcohol or chloride, polyester or polyacrylonitrile. The impregnating mixture may also contain, or the fibrous carrier be further impregnated with (a) an anionic or non-ionic surface active agent, e.g. an alkylallyl sulphonate or polyoxyethylene sorbitan alkyl ester, and/or (b) a wetting agent e.g. polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, or sodium alginate or polyacrylate, and/or (c) a water-soluble and non- volatile solvent for oily dirt, e.g. polyethylene glycol, glycerine, or dimethyl sulphonide and/or (d) silicone oil emulsion.
