Abstract

654,869. Wadding. KENDALL CO. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 20896/49. Convention date, Jan. 26 1946. Divided out of 654,834. Drawings to Specification. [Class 142(iv)] [Also in Group VIII] A non-woven, felt-like material, which is soft, porous, flexible, comformable, compressible and substantially extensible. consists wholly or mainly of intertwined cotton fibres individually possessing chemically induced irregular kinks and twists, the fabric being primarily dependent for its cohesion on the intertwining of the kinked and twisted cotton fibres. The kinking and " felting " of the cotton fibres may be effected by using the method and apparatus described in Specification 654,834. The material may include other natural or synthetic fibres, such as kapok, wool, silk, nylon, vinyl resin, or regenerated cellulose, in addition to the cotton fibres. A major proportion of the cotton fibres are preferably to 1¢ in. long; the felt may have an extensibility in at least one direction of 30 per cent and a density of at least 3 pounds per cubic foot.
