Abstract

729,569. Compound fabrics. FREUDENBERG KOMM.-GES., C. June 25, 1952 [Dec. 22, 1951], No. 16022/52. Class 140. [Also in Group VII] A compound fabric for use in stiffened articles of wearing-apparel comprises an outer woven layer 13, an inner woven layer 14 and an intermediate layer 15 secured to at least one of the woven layers and comprising a porous, flexible, crease-resistant and shrink-proof sheet material formed of intermingled fine cardable fibres 24 arranged in random directions and having deposited on its surfaces and distributed therethrough small adhering particles 25 of thermoplastic binder materials, such as a vinyl or acrylic resin, cementing adjacent fibres together and leaving relatively large interstices 26 between the fibres. The intermediate layer 15 may be first stitched to both layers 13, 14 and then adhered thereto by heat and pressure. The fibres 24 may consist of cotton, ramie, flax, wool, rayon, cellulose acetate, casein, polyamides, polyvinyl, polyvinylidene, or polyacrylic fibres.
