Abstract
A regenerated cellulose sponge structure having staple fibres distributed within it, the ends of at least some of the fibres extending out of at least a part of the surface of the sponge forming a fibrous nap on that part of the surface, is prepared by dispersing staple fibres and crystals of Glauber's salt in a viscose solution, shaping the mixture, regenerating the cellulose, dissolving out the salt crystals, drying and removing at least a part of the surface skin. The sponge may be in the form of a sponge cloth or a sponge coated yarn. Specified fibres are flax, cotton, jute, hemp, nylon, polyacrylonitrile, polyethylene, polyethylene terephlate and polyvinylidene chloride.ALSO:A regenerated cellulose sponge structure has staple fibres distributed within it, the ends of at least some of the fibres extending out of at least a part of the surface of the sponge forming a fibrous nap on that part of the surface. The sponge may be in the form of a sponge cloth or a sponge coated yarn. The sponge is prepared by dispersing staple fibres and crystals of Glauber's salt in a viscose solution, shaping the mixture, regenerating the cellulose, dissolving out the salt crystals, drying and removing at least a part of the surface skin.
